Our Story

Cook Islander Cristine Tee began her yoga voyage of discovery more than 20 years ago. Practicing Iyengar, Bikram, Power Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Yin, restorative breathwork, and Meditation. In her own practice – balancing family life, an active lifestyle, and the management of an Auckland law firm – yoga has allowed her to bring a greater focus and vitality to all she does. Cristine sees yoga as a holistic lifestyle that connects others and aids in all elements of a healthy life. Providing strength, energy, and rest, for all aspects of wellbeing, be it physical, emotional, social, or spiritual.

Tropical Island Yoga is the fruit of both Cristine’s yoga experience, and her strong cultural roots. Combining the authentic warmth and hospitality of Cook Island culture, with the mindfulness and restorative strength of yoga. Tropical Island Yoga is more than just a retreat, it’s a means of connecting with the intention, care, and consideration that lies within both yoga and te ao Kūki ‘Airani (The Cook Island world).

Cristine has worked over the years to provide an authentic Cook Island retreat that works directly with the community to provide the best possible experience. One that shares the benefits of yoga with all, and shows the beauty of the Cook Islands in the way only a local can.

Cristine - Founder / Director

Cristine founder and director of Tropical Island Yoga. Working to build this retreat from the ground up. Currently, she works to manage all aspects of the experience, both before, during, and after your retreat. If you ever need help with anything, she’s the person to turn to. Cristine administers and oversees everything needed for Tropical Island Yoga to flow seamlessly, ensuring the experience is second to none, and enjoyable for all.

She believes it is vital to encourage one’s own growth through yoga. Cultivating and nurturing a practice, under the guidance of experienced teachers, which enriches all of life.

Cristine, along with the rest of the Tropical Island Yoga team, can't wait to welcome you to the wonderful island paradise of the Cook Islands. Giving back to the islands:

Today, yoga in the Cook Islands is seen as a new way to find fun in fitness, as well as mobility - with a big part of the culture embracing sport and dance, as well as overall positive wellbeing and happiness. Your attendance on the experience will create a lasting impact on the lives of locals - young and old.

We are working on developing ongoing classes for the local community, as well as further nutrition and dietary education on the islands. We are planning to develop a yoga teaching training course and scholarships for local islanders with ongoing support, thriving to grow and unite the local yoga community.
